NOAC 2018 Registration Open

Big letters spelling NOAC

The National Order of the Arrow Conference is the OA’s version of a jamboree. Held every few years on a major college campus, the event brings together thousands of Arrowmen for a week-long celebration. The next conference will be held July 30 to August 3, 2018 at Indiana University. Ini-To Lodge has been allotted 17 spots, to include 13 youth and 4 adults, and deposits are now being accepted.

The lodge anticipates for the trip to cost approximately $1,000. This includes the national conference fee, transportation to Indiana University, contingent expenses, and contingent memorabilia. $100 deposits are being accepted to declare your interest in attending, and the lodge selection committee will choose delegates in the coming months. Anyone not selected will have their deposit refunded.

Heartland Gathering Program Update

Brothers,

With the Heartland Gathering in less than three weeks, there are a few important reminders to help everyone be informed.

1) Everyone will be sleeping in personal tents. Camp Lumpkin will not be providing tents for all attendees. With that being said, we will be using a trailer to help transport all of our gear to our campsite. This will be a white and blue trailer with “Troop 162, Hampton, GA” on both sides. More details will follow as to the trailer location for gear transport.

2) We need volunteers to help set-up and run the Tailypo booth. Tailypo is a fellowship type event, on Saturday night occurring from 9:30-10:00 pm, where all lodges showcase a fun event. If you are interested in volunteering, please let Corey McCarthy know for more information.

3) Rad Wyrick is heading up the Quest Events for Ini-To Lodge. Quest Events are the athletic activities that all lodges participate in. This year, lodges can participate in tug-o-war, dodgeball, Wischixin, and ultimate frisbee. Everyone is invited to join in on these events; however, there are a limited number of spots depending on the activity.

4) Include some spending money if you would like to purchase any extra memorabilia during the weekend. The section will have limited amounts available of this year’s items, and the lodge will be selling our delegate patch.

5) As always, please remember the ten essentials, rain gear will be a must. Here is a helpful link if you are unfamiliar to the 10 essentials: http://boyslife.org/outdoors/outdoorarticles/6976/scout-outdoor-essentials-checklist/

6) Please remember that you will be representing Ini-To Lodge and Flint River Council, so look your best. Bring your field uniform, and you will receive the lodge event t-shirt onsite for wear on Saturday.

7) Make sure you take advantage of every activity and opportunity available at Heartland Gathering! Training, Ceremonies, Quest Events, patch trading (make sure you only bring items you are willing to trade!), the new OA High Adventure Village, drumming, and dancing are just a few of the many programs available. There is an activity for everyone.

Finally, thank you to every Arrowman who can attend this event. It speaks volumes that we are bringing over eighty people! I look forward to seeing everyone on April 21.

Yours in Brotherhood,

Austin Clark
Ini-To Lodge Chief

Indian Winter 2017

The Section SR-9 event, Indian Winter, will be held February 3-5, 2017 at Warner Scout Reservation near Montgomery, AL.

What is Indian Winter?

Indian Winter is a Section SR-9 event, bringing together Arrowmen from Alabama and Georgia, to focus on American Indian activities and leadership discussions.

American Indian Focus:
Classes will be held on ceremonies, dance and drum, beadwork, and regalia construction. Several of these classes will offer hands-on experiences with “make and take” crafts. Anyone interested in learning more about the American Indian aspects of OA are encouraged to attend.

Leadership Focus:
The national program, LINK, will be carried out during this event. All lodge and chapter leadership is encouraged to attend as Section SR-9 provides discussions and training classes to help improve local program. This year, the three areas of concentration are youth membership retention, unit elections rate, and lodge event attendance.

How do I attend Indian Winter?

Registration is now open, and will be available until January 9. The cost is $25 for the weekend. Contact your chapter adviser for assistance in arranging transportation to Warner Scout Reservation.

Heartland Gathering 2017

post_heartland-gathering

Section SR-9 invites YOU to the inaugural Heartland Gathering on April 21-23, 2017 at Camp Lumpkin in LaGrange, Georgia.

What is the Heartland Gathering?

The Heartland Gathering is the largest local OA event of the year with over 1,000 OA brothers in attendance from Alabama and Georgia. During the weekend event, there is a wide range of activities available, including but not limited to: patch trading and patch auctions, exciting shows, contests and giveaways, training classes, athletic competitions between lodges, ceremony evaluations for every ceremony, dance and drum pow-wow’s, and the Saturday night “Tailypo” which is essentially a gigantic cracker barrel.

The event is so large that we, as a lodge, will make a special T-shirt and patch just for this event. Each lodge member who attends will receive one of each as part of their registration fee.

Why the Heartland Gathering?

The Order of the Arrow is divided into 48 sections nationwide for inter-lodge fellowship on the local level. Ini-To Lodge is part of Section SR-9, which covers 11 lodges within Alabama and Georgia. The eleven lodges comprise the geographic and economic center of the Southern Region, better known as the Southern Heartland. The Heartland Gathering brings together the Arrowmen who call this area home for one unforgettable weekend each year.

How do I attend?

The registration cost for Ini-To Lodge members is $45 and includes the section event fee with an event patch, one lodge event T-shirt, and one lodge patch. We understand this is more expensive than our other events, but attendance is well worth it. Your $45 is split two ways to pay for the event. $33 is sent to the section to pay for the event program, housing, and food; while the remaining $12 is spent by the lodge to cover items such as your T-shirt and lodge patch. The registration deadline is March 19, 2017.

What if I want extra section or lodge patches?

There is a wide variety of memorabilia available for this event, including several patches, hats, and luggage tags. In order to guarantee you receive the items you want, you MUST pre-order them by February 5, 2017. The section trading post will have very small quantities available on-site at the event.

New for 2017, the lodge patch is included in this pre-order. One is included as part of your event fee, but you may order as many extra as you would like.
